CAHERDAVIN councillor Cormac Hurley has insisted the resignation of three members of Fine Gael’s Conn McGrath branch had nothing to do with the addition of Tina O’Gorman to the ticket.

Branch chair Kieran Hartigan, resigned with secretary Eoin Kirwan, and another member.

But Cllr Hurley says their resignations pre-dates her addition to the ticket in place of Timmy O’Connor, who had to pull out through illness.

“What was quoted in the paper last Friday that the resignation of members of the Conn McGrath branch over Tina O’Gorman was not the case. They had resigned as far back as April 16, and she was not added to the ticket until the beginning of May,” he said.

Cllr Denis McCarthy, running on the northside says all candidates are supportive of each other: “We have no defined areas. Anybody can go anywhere, not divided up anywhere, completely open area. Tina was known to me before the election, and I wish her every success.”
