Officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized 24.7 kgs of roll-your-own tobacco in Limerick

REVENUE’S Customs Service has seized €8,000 of illegal tobacco in an operation in Limerick city.

The intelligence-led operation saw Revenue officers 24.7 kgs of roll-your-own tobacco with a retail value of almost €8,000 - represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €6,100.

As part of the operation, officers conducted searches at a business premises and an apartment building at lunchtime this Wednesday.

The ‘Flandria’ tobacco was discovered concealed in boxes labelled ‘Fresh Farm Eggs’.

One Irish male in his 50’s was questioned and the investigation is on-going with a view to prosecution.
