A FILE is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after independent TDs Mick Wallace and Clare Daly were arrested at Shannon Airport this afternoon.

According to Shannonwatch, Mr Wallace and Ms Daly were detained shortly after midday after they attempted to enter the runway at the airport with the intention of inspecting a US military plane.

“Two people – a male and a female – were arrested by airport police after breaching a security fence,” said a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office.

Following their arrest, the Wexford and Dublin TDs were taken to Shannon garda station where they were questioned before being released without charge.

Limerick man Ed Horgan, an anti-war campaigner with the Peace and Neutrality Alliance, is reported to have witnessed the two arrests.

He has claimed that Mick Wallace and Clare Daly were arrested by airport police close to an aircraft - believed to be a US Hercules transport plane.
