Man rescued from the River Shannon

A man in his thirties was hospitalised after he was rescued from the River Shannon near Limerick city centre during the early hours of this morning.

Three units of the Limerick Fire and Rescue Service were deployed to Arthurs Quay Park at around 1.30am after reports were received that a man had been seen entering the water.

On arrival at the scene, members of the fire service located the man on the rocks.

Two firefighters were lowered with ropes to assist the man who was then removed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick.

His condition is not believed to be life threatening.
