A man is being questioned about a recent spate of burglaries in County Limerick


LIMERICK gardai are appealing for information following a number of violent incidents last night.

A 25-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital after he suffered head wounds during an incident at John Street.

The man was taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL), after he was injured when a row broke out between a number of people at around 11pm. While serious, his condition is not life threatening.

Investigations are also continuing following a brawl, which erupted in the Ballynanty area of the city at around 7pm last night.

Gardai say a large number of people “who are known to each other” were involved in the incident, which happened on the public street at Shanabooley Road. A number of those involved were hospitalised but all of them have since been discharged.

There are unconfirmed reports that a number of weapons, including a machete, were used during the incident.

Gardai at Henry Street are investigating both incidents and are appealing for anybody with information to contact them at (061) 212400.

Elsewhere, investigations are underway following an altercation between two individuals in the carpark outside a local shop and licensed premises at Holycross, Bruff last night.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm and both men, who are from the locality, are understood to be aged in their thirties.

One man was admitted to UHL following the incident.

The man was unconscious when admitted to the casualty department of the hospital and he remains in a serious condition.
