A FILE is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions after a house was damaged during a violent incident in Rathkeale.

According to gardai, a number of men entered the house in the Cois Deel estate at around 10.20 last night armed with slash hooks and iron bars.

One of the occupants of the house has claimed that extensive damage was caused to windows and doors and that a young child was also injured by the intruders.

Following the incident, which is being linked to a local family dispute, four men were arrested on the outskirts of Limerick city.

The four were apprehended near the Dock Road Roundabout after the car they were travelling in collided with another vehicle during an alleged chase.

They were questioned at Roxboro Road and Newcastle West garda stations about the incident at the house before being released without charge.

Two men who were travelling in the second car were hospitalised with non life-threatening injuries.

Gardai at Rathkeale are investigating the incident.
