Gardai in Roxboro have appealed for information in relation to a hit and run accident near Old Crescent Rugby Club on Thursday afternoon

 

GARDAI in Roxboro are investigating a hit-and-run accident which has left an elderly man recovering in hospital with broken bones.

The accident occurred at Rosbrien Road near the entrance to Old Crescent rugby club between 3pm and 3.30pm on Thursday.

The victim, who was out walking his dog at the time, is aged in his late 70s and is well-known in golf circles in Limerick.

He suffered a number of serious injuries when he was struck by a car which failed to remain at the scene. He was rushed to University Hospital Limerick at 3.30pm on Thursday and his injuries are understood not to be life-threatening. He has been able to speak to investigating gardai about the incident.

Gardai at Roxboro are keen to speak to anybody who was in the area at what was a busy time for traffic.

“It is being investigated as a hit-and-run and obviously we want to speak to the driver of the car or any witnesses,” a spokesman at Roxboro garda station said.
