CYCLISTS across Limerick and beyond are preparing to get on their bike for the annual Cliona’s Foundation Cycle which takes to the open road this Saturday.

Organisers are promising an action-packed line up of activities for everyone to enjoy including a barbecue, bouncy castles, face painting, three cycle routes and even one or two very special guest appearances.

All proceeds from the cycle goes to Cliona’s Foundation.

The charity was set up by in 2007 by Brendan and Terry Ring, in memory of their daughter Cliona, who died of an inoperable brain tumour.

Cliona’s Foundation now provides financial assistance to critically ill children all over Ireland. It has raised in excess of €500,000 without state support and is helping more than 180 families.

Mr Ring says because they have recently gone nationwide there has been an influx of applications for funding.

“This is putting extra pressure on the foundation but thanks to wonderful groups that support us like the Cliona’s Foundation Cycle and the funds that will hopefully be raised by the event on August 30 we are still managing to meet these demands.

“The more people that take part in the cycle means the more funds that are raised and the more families that we are going to be able to help, ” said Mr Ring.

All the cycles start from the Honey Fitz Theatre in Lough Gur. The cycle for the experienced cyclists which covers a distance of 90km has an entry fee of €30 and departs at 10am. The leisure cycle which covers a distance of 40km has an entry fee of €30 and leaves at 11am.

The family cycle which covers 10km and has an entry fee of €25 leaves at 9.45am.

Registration opens at 8.30am for all cycles or book online at eventmaster.ie
