IRELAND South MEP Sean Kelly’s director of elections has admitted he is concerned for his candidate’s vote in the city.

Former Fine Gael TD Mike Finucane believes Brian Crowley (FF) will top the poll in the sprawling constituency, and also predicted seats for Liadh Ni Riada (SF) and Mr Kelly.

He said although Mr Kelly - who has an office in the city - appears to be polling well in rural areas, he is losing ground to Liadh Ni Riada in the urban areas.

“I have looked at some rural tallies, like Caherconlish and Hospital, where he would be running at 20%. I’d be very interested to see the western parts, Newcastle West and Rathkeale. But I think the city boxes, particularly in the working class areas will drag back his vote. He is around nine per cent there,” said Mr Finucane.

Cllr Maurice Quinlivan (SF) said of Ms Ni Riada: “If she is topping the poll in Caherdavin, she is going to do very well. If you look at the tallies around Monaleen, Castletroy where I have seen them, Liadh Ni Riada seems to be coming out very well.”
