THE new extension to Athea school, which cost three quarters of a million euro to complete, will be formally blessed this Sunday by Bishop Donal Murray following 11am Mass.
The cutting of the tape to mark the official opening will be performed by Athea native, Dublin, Cork and London hotelier Tom Moran, who donated 10,000 towards the cost of the extension.
The extension comprises six classrooms, all en-suite, and extensive resource, computer and home economics facilities.
The school currently has just under 150 pupils. Work will continue to adapt the original school, constructed almost 90 years ago, as support and speciality space.
