AS the University of Limerick prepares to celebrate its 40th birthday, our magnificent 16-page souvenir supplement looks back at the greatest campaign in Limerick’s proud history – and honours the passionate local people who fought long and hard for our university.

Free with our County, City and West Limerick editions this week, the special supplement will fascinate all with an interest in the incredible success story that UL has become.

It contains many unpublished photographs - recently discovered by our archive team - showing thousands of people on the streets on Limerick, demanding a university.

The vast majority of these remarkable pictures never appeared in the Leader at the time - in fact, they were never even developed from the original negatives.

The supplement will also include many reports from the Leader during the long campaign and the reminiscences of university campaigners.

It’s a wonderful piece of Limerick history - don’t miss it!
