GARDAI in Newcastle West are appealing for information following a daring burglary at a pharmacy near the centre of the town during the early hours of yesterday morning.

GARDAI in Newcastle West are appealing for information following a daring burglary at a pharmacy near the centre of the town during the early hours of yesterday morning.

The front window of Dooley’s pharmacy on Bishop Street was smashed when a stolen car was driven through the window of the store at around 4am.

A considerable amount of damage was caused during the raid and a number of items were taken from the store by the culprits.

The scene of the raid was preserved following the incident and a forensic examination has been conducted by members of the divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.

A garda spokesman confirmed the car used to smash the window had been reported stolen a number of days earlier and that they are looking to trace the movements of the vehicle as part of their investigation.

CCTV footage in the area is being viewed as part of the investigation and anyone who has information is asked to contact Newcastle West Gardai .

“We have launched an investigation and anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anything suspicious we would ask that they contact us at 069 20650,” said a garda spokesman.
