TWO men are being questioned following an incident during which armed gardai fired a number of shots at a car which failed to stop.

The incident happened in the Dooradoyle Road area of the city shortly after 4.30pm today.

A Peugeot 406 car was initially directed to stop near Collins’ Bar and a pursuit took place when it failed to do so.

It was followed by an unmarked garda car along Dooradoyle Road before entering a cul-de-sac near the Regional United soccer pitch.

A second unmarked garda car arrived on the scene quickly and according to witnesses, the driver of the Peugeot then repeatedly rammed the two garda cars.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed that a number of shots were fired by gardai during the incident.

Nobody was injured in the shooting but one garda was taken to hospital for observation after he sustained a hand injury during the ramming.

The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission has been notified about the incident.
