A GARAGE employee has been left shaken after he was threatened with a handgun in the early hours of Friday morning.

A lone male wearing a balaclava and armed with a handgun approached the hatch of Apple Service Station at Coolanoran, Newcastle West at 1.30am.

He threatened the employee and demanded money confirmed Superintendent of the Newcastle West garda district, Tom O’Connor. The armed male got a sum of cash before escaping via a vehicle in the direction of Limerick.

Scene of crime investigators carried out a technical examination and gardai are studying CCTV footage.

“We are looking for witnesses - it is a very busy road. Anybody who saw anything suspicious between 1.20am and 1.30am in the early hours of Friday morning please contact us at Newcastle West garda station on 069 20650,” said Supt O’Connor.
