Met Eireann is warning that sleet and snow are likely to return to most parts of Limerick this evening.

There was snowfall reported in many parts of County Limerick this morning, with at least one school, Templeglantine NS, being closed as a result.

The heaviest snowfall has been reported in parts of West Limerick, particularly on higher ground. There was also some snowfall in East Limerick - most notably in Kilmallock and Kilfinane.

So far, there has been no snowfall in Limerick city.

“Inches of Snow in West Limerick. Minor roads poor,” said Angela Gallagher on Twitter.

Gardai and the AA are advising motorists to be careful when driving, particularly on secondary roads.

There were traffic delays on the N21 near Barna this morning due to the weather but there have been no reports of any accidents so far.

Meanwhile, passengers who intend travelling from Shannon Airport this week are being advised to check with their airline before travelling as several flights have been cancelled due to the poor weather here and in Europe.

According to Met Eireann it will be dry for the remainder of the day with sleet and snow likely to return this evening as temperatures drop to below freezing.
