Gardai have seized cannabis resin worth up to €400,000 during planned searches in West Limerick.

20kgs of the drugs were located at around lunchtime today in a ditch near a property at Ballyhahill, between Glin and Shanagolden.

The searches were conducted by members of the divisional drugs unit who were assisted by gardai from the Askeaton district.

Insp Paul Reidy said the search was part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Limerick and across the Southern Region.

“It is a significant seizure and our investigations are live and ongoing,” he said.

The drugs and the wrapping in which they were found have being sent for forensic analysis at garda headquarters.

No arrests have been made so far in relation to the seizure, which is one of the largest ever in the Askeaton district.
