THE Health Service Executive has introduced visiting restrictions at the Paediatric Unit at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

A HSE spokesperson said the restrictions have been put in place “due to an unprecedented number of children with gastric symptoms” being admitted to the unit in recent days.

The spokesperson said “all appropriate infection control measures” are being taken to deal with this situation and that the restrictions will remain in place until the situation has been resolved.

Children are not allowed to the visit the unit due to the restrictions and each inpatient is only allowed a single visitor at any one time.

Management at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital have thanked the public for their cooperation so far.
