IT’S only three months since thousands of people lined the streets for the Great Limerick Run, but another local running institution is just seven weeks away.

IT’S only three months since thousands of people lined the streets for the Great Limerick Run, but another local running institution is just seven weeks away.

The 2012 Limerick Women’s Mini-Marathon will take place at 12 noon on Sunday, October 14 around the University of Limerick campus.

It recent years as many as 4,000 women have taken part, as well as a dozens of men dressed in drag.

Thousands of women are again preparing to lace up their trainers and run for good causes by participating in the popular run.

The annual event, organised by Limerick Athletic Club is sponsored by the Limerick Leader, Limerick’s Live 95FM, Limerick Post and the VHI and run in association with Limerick County Council and Shannon Development.

The 8km event has been hosted in Limerick since 1998, when just 400 people took part in the inaugural event.

Much-needed funds are raised by participants for various charities at local, national and international levels.

“It is this generosity that we see year after year which enables these charities to continue their invaluable work,” said the organisers.

Entry is now open for the Limerick Women’s Mini-Marathon on www.limerickminimarathon.com.

The entry fee at present is €15 but this increases to €20 after September 1.
