GARDAI at Roxboro are investigating an alleged abduction incident in which a man on his way to work in Limerick city in the early hours of Monday morning was flagged down by two individuals who seized control of his vehicle and took him as far as Kildare.

It is understood that the man who made the complaint to gardai did not suffer any injuries arising from the incident and there is no indication that weapons were used.

The incident began when a man driving a small green Toyota to work on the Old Cork Road at around 4am.

The driver stopped the car after being waved down by two men, it is understood. They then jumped into the car and took control of the car.

It is believed they then took the motorist with them in the car before he was let out on the M7 Dublin to Limerick motorway somewhere near Kildare town. He then made his way into the town and reported the incident at Kildare Garda Station.

Gardai at Roxboro have since spoken to the man and are appealing for information from anyone who saw something suspicious either in the Old Cork Road area or on the motorway to Kildare.

Gardai said there was a possibility the car may have come to a stop again somewhere between the Portlaoise and Kildare exits and are keen to speak to anybody who saw anything suspicious or a car matching the above description early on Monday morning.

Anybody with information can contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214340.
