CASTLETROY View has scooped the top prize of €15,000 after it was selected as the overall winner of the €50k Community Challenge.

CASTLETROY View has scooped the top prize of €15,000 after it was selected as the overall winner of the €50k Community Challenge.

Residents from the estate, which includes almost 120 houses, were ecstatic when the results were announced at City Hall this Wednesday morning.

Located near Claughaun GAA club, the estate which was a wild card entry in the final beat off stiff competition from Spring Grove, Caherdavin and the other three finalists.

“We are absolutely thrilled and over the moon,” said Maggie Jardine, of the Castletroy View Tidy Towns committee. “This is really the icing on the cake for us, it was great fun being involved and we’re so happy that we took the top prize.”

Spring Grove in Corbally won €10,000 for finishing second while Caherdavin, which came third, won €6,000.

The competition, which was supported by Limerick City Council, the JP McManus Charitable foundation, Live 95FM and the Limerick Leader, has been running for the past six weeks.
