INVESTIGATIONS are underway into the cause of a large fire near Limerick city centre last night, which completely destroyed a business premises.
THE blaze at the former Cathedral Carpets premises on Mungret Street began at around 7pm last night and it wasn’t brought under control until shortly before midnight.
Several units of the fire service from Limerick city attended the scene and fire personnel from County Limerick, Clare and Tipperary were also deployed.
A number of people living in nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution but nobody was seriously injured in the fire
The scene of the fire remains sealed off and gardai will conduct forensic examinations later today.
