MEMBERS of the public are being encouraged to take part in a protest march in the city centre on Wednesday evening to voice their opposition to the IMF bailout, which was agreed by the Government last month.

The protest has been organised to coincide with a Dail debate on the Bailout. The march, which has been organised by the non-party civic movement Claiming Our Future, will begin at 6pm outside Penny's, O'Connell Street before making its way to the Limerick branch of Anglo Irish Bank at Henry Street.

Ellen Dillon, from Ardpatrick said: "Would you vote for a deal that shackles us to bank debt for generations to come? We are being ignored by the current political class, too busy doing favours for their clients to question the party line or take a stand for their country. Ireland's citizens need to organise. We need to make it clear to our potential elected representatives that politicians should be making policy, not pulling strokes, and that we need nothing short of a New Republic."
