Limerick's comedy-rap double act, The Rubberbandits, are in line to steal the Christmas number one spot from X-Factor winner Matt Cardle with their new single 'Horse Outside'.

The plastic-bag wearing duo are now 4/5 favourites on Paddy Power to scoop last night's winner of the massive UK show, and after clocking up nearly a million views in four days on You Tube for the video for the new single, plus securing number one spot in the iTunes download chart over the weekend, the 'Bandits might conceivably steal the top spot in the Irish charts on Christmas Day.

The winning song from the X-Factor winner has been number one in the Irish charts since 2006, but thanks to the group's legion of supporters - both in Limerick and across the country - and the exposure they have received as regular contributors to RTE's weekly Republic of Telly programme in recent months, they are soaring up the charts this Monday.

Fans are being urged to wait to buy the song between December 17 and 23 to "maximise its chances" of hitting number one and the single will physically be available in all good record stores from Thursday.
