A THOUSAND people are expected to run through the city streets this Tuesday for a 5km run, along with famous broadcaster Ray D’Arcy.

A THOUSAND people are expected to run through the city streets this Tuesday for a 5km run, along with famous broadcaster Ray D’Arcy.

But only a limited number of places are left, which can be booked on the day in the Strand Hotel.

Limerick Athletic Club with the assistance of Limerick County Board AAI are hosting the “Join Spar & Ray run for 5K” this Tuesday, April 3.

This is a series of lunch-time runs in five cities and towns across the country in five days and is for all levels of fitness and age groups.

The race will start and finish on O’Callaghan’s Strand, with the route taking in the North Circular Road, Shannon Bridge, Bishops Quay, Harvey’s Quay, Honan’s Quay, Arthur’s Quay Park, City hall, Kings John’s Castle, Castle Lane, Castle Street, Thomond Bridge, and Clancy’s Strand.

Entries will also be taken on the day from 11am in The Strand Hotel.

Entrants are asked to attend early to allow time to pick up race numbers, or sign up.

The Ray D’Arcy show on today FM will be broadcasting live from Limerick on the run day from 9am to 12 noon. The cost of entry is €5, which includes a t-shirt and a goodie bag. Athletics clubs in Limerick will get a portion of the proceeds.

No more online entries are being taken and only 80 places were left at the time of writing.

The race is expected to finish within an hour to limit traffic disruptions.

At least 50 marshals are required to man the race, and the organisers are asking people involved in athletics in Limerick to assist them. To help, call Tom Foley on 087 1835605
