Two brothers are being questioned following a significant drugs seizure in St Mary's Park
TWO senior members of a criminal gang are being questioned following a significant drugs seizure on the northside of Limerick city.

TWO senior members of a criminal gang are being questioned following a significant drugs seizure on the northside of Limerick city.

Heroin with an estimated street value of around €50,000 was seized when a house in St Mary’s Park was searched as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime.

The house was searched under warrant around at around 6pm on Tuesday by gardai from Henry Street assisted by members of the armed Regional Support Unit.

Two men, aged 43 and 40, were arrested at the house and both are being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act).

The brothers are known to gardai and are key figures in a criminal gang, which is suspected of heavy involvement in the illicit drugs trade.

They can be detained for a maximum of seven days without charge.

The drugs, which according to sources were located on a table in the kitchen of the house, have been sent for forensic analysis.
