TWO people have been rescued from a fire at an apartment in Catherine Street.

TWO people have been rescued from a fire at an apartment in Catherine Street.

A man and a woman were pulled from a smoke-filled bedroom by fire officers attached to Limerick City and County fire service.

The blaze began shortly before 10pm on Saturday evening.

Two people were trapped in the bedroom.

Two units with an aerial ladder platform attended the scene and discovered the apartment consumed with smoke.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus found a man and an unconscious woman in the apartment on the second floor.

The man and woman were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where their condition is unknown.
