A MAN is being questioned about the seizure of a firearm on the northside of Limerick city.

A MAN is being questioned about the seizure of a firearm on the northside of Limerick city.

A sawn-off shotgun was seized at around midday yesterday when members of the armed Regional Support Unit stopped and searched a van at the junction of Clancy Strand and High Street.

The 25-year-old driver, who was the sole occupant of the van, was arrested and is being detained at Mayorstone Park garda station under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

He can be held, without charge, for a maximum of 72 hours.
