A UNIVERSITY of Limerick graduate who was arrested after running on to the pitch during a World Cup game has described it as “one of the best days of my life”.
Oisin McQuinn, 22, from Ahenny, south Tipperary, was still on a high after spending three hours in custody being interviewed by Brazilian police.
Writing on his public Facebook page, the product design graduate from UL said: “Yesterday was easily one of the best days of my life, the pre-match banter, premium side line seats, French victory, and then of course my 15 seconds of fame before getting layed out and escorted off the field as the entire stadium stood and cheered!”
With his half naked body painted in the French colours, he ran on to the pitch during France’s victory over Switzerland - and his feat made it to the front pages of newspapers around the world.
Oisin, who graduated from UL in May and is in the middle of a trip around South America with his brother Tony, ran out at the end of the game and tried to get onto the pitch to meet the famous player Karim Benzema.
However, he was quickly tackled to the ground, but succeeded in getting a laugh from French forward Olivier Giroud.
The French supporter, whose body was painted in red, blue and white, also had ‘Eiffel Tower’ written across his abdomen, with an arrow pointing towards his groin area.
His ‘triumph’ was, he said, “swiftly followed by three hours in a cold interrogation room with three FBI looking dudes, me covered in body paint in my boxers with a big moustache on me trying to keep a straight face not understanding a word! Priceless! Mc Quinns 1- Brazil 0.”
France won 5-2 against Switzerland and their next game is against Ecudaor this Wednesday at 9pm.
