A YOUNG man has died after he drowned while swimming in waters near the Ardnacrusha Bridge.

A YOUNG man has died after he drowned while swimming in waters near the Ardnacrusha Bridge.

Joe Killeen, 17, from Meelick, had gone missing while swimming at around 4.45pm on Friday.

Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, the Gardai and other emergency services were called to the scene, which lies near the Ardnacrusha Power station , a short time later.

His body was recovered at around 6pm. It is the fifth drowning in Ireland this week.
