A WOMAN has been arrested by gardai investigating a serious assault on the northside of Limerick city earlier this week.

A WOMAN has been arrested by gardai investigating a serious assault on the northside of Limerick city earlier this week.

A 26-year-old man is fighting for his life at Cork University Hospital (CUH) after he sustained serious head injuries in the incident at Knockhill, Ennis Road on Tuesday night.

The man was initially taken to University Hospital Limerick but was subsequently transferred to CUH after his condition detiorated.

It is understood the man, who is from County Clare, was attending a house party at an apartment complex when the incident happened.

While gardai were not alerted until a number of hours after the incident a full investigation is now underway.

A 24-year-old woman, who was arrested late last night, is being questioned at Mayorstone garda station.
