REVENUE officers have seized over 25,000 cigarettes in Limerick city as part of a planned operation.

REVENUE officers have seized over 25,000 cigarettes in Limerick city as part of a planned operation.

The officers - from Revenue’s Customs Service - seized the illegal cigarettes, which have a potential retail value of €11,000 and a potential loss to the exchequer of over €8,500, in Limerick city this Wednesday.

Officers executed a search warrant at the private residence of a Chinese national in his forties, who was questioned.

The investigation is ongoing with a view to prosecution.
