SAINT Gabriel’s school and the Lourdes Invalid Fund will be the beneficiaries of this year’s Mayor’s Charity Ball, which takes place at the Strand Hotel on Friday, May 6.

Mayor of Limerick Cllr Maria Byrne, who will host this year’s ball has close links with each of the charities.

She is a member of development board at St Gabriel’s school and she has travelled as a volunteer to Lourdes every year for the past two decades.

“Both charities are very close to my heart and both benefit so many people in the city and county and they give great service to the people and that is the reason why I chose the two charities and hopefully we will make money on the night to benefit both and, I suppose, the most important thing is that they are both Limerick charities,” said Mayor Byrne at the official launch of the ball.

The guest speaker at this year’s Mayor’s Ball will be announced nearer the date but Mayor Byrne says it will be a “high profile” sports personality to mark Limerick’s reign as European City of Sport.

Ticket for the Mayor’s Ball are available from City Hall at a cost of €110 or €1,100 for a table of ten.
