Thousands of chickens perish in County Limerick fire

MORE than 12,000 chickens have died following a fire at a farm in County Limerick.

MORE than 12,000 chickens have died following a fire at a farm in County Limerick.

The fire broke out shortly before 4am at Monalena around 3 miles outside Newcastle West.

Five units of the county Limerick fire service fought the blaze for several hours but they were unable to save the chickens.

Gardai at Newcastle West have launched an investigation but it is not believed the fire is suspicious.
