FOUR men are being questioned in connection with an incident in Rathkeale in the early hours of this morning.

FOUR men are being questioned in connection with an incident in Rathkeale in the early hours of this morning.

The men, who are all aged in their 20’s, were arrested shortly after local gardai encountered five men in a car who were wearing balaclavas.

Gardai stopped the vehicle at Fairhill, Rathkeale shortly after midnight but the men threatened them before attempting to flee.

Additional gardai from Limerick city and Newcastle West were deployed in Rathkeale to provide assistance and four men were arrested a short time later.

They are being questioned at garda stations across Limerick under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Damien Hogan of the Garda Press Office confirmed that three vehicles have been seized along with a quantity of weapons and cash as part of the investgation.

Inquiries are ongoing.
