Keg thefts continue in Limerick as criminals get taste for free drink

FOR the second time in a month thieves have stolen kegs from outside a pub in Cappamore.

FOR the second time in a month thieves have stolen kegs from outside a pub in Cappamore.

Garda John Finnerty says this type of crime has become more prominent in recent times.

“Two kegs of Budweiser, two kegs of Smithwicks and four kegs of Guinness were all stolen from the front of a licensed premises at Main Street, Cappamore on Wednesday, January 9 between 8.30am and 9am,” said Garda Finnerty.

Thieves even severed a chain which was securing all the kegs together in the daylight robbery.

“A white Ford transit van with the registration number 07KE was seen in the area at 9.10am. The side door of this van was also open. There would have been plenty of people travelling through Cappamore during this hour of the morning. If you were one of them and noticed the white van or anything else suspicions then please contact Cappamore gardai on 061 381202,” said Garda Finnerty.

It was very merry Christmas for thieves who stole a total of 13 kegs from outside the front of pubs in Doon and Cappamore

Ten kegs of assorted beers were stolen from outside the front of a public house at Main Street, Doon on Wednesday morning, December 5 between 6.30am and 7.30am,” said Garda Finnerty.

On the same date and time in Cappamore three kegs of Guinness were stolen from the front of a public house on the village’s Main Street.

“It is quite likely that the same thieves were involved in both of these incidents,” said Garda Finnerty at the time.

In total, kegs of alcohol have been stolen from six locations across the county.

In Annacotty on October 24 a white Ford Transit van pulled up, a male loaded a keg of Heineken into it and drove off.

At around 8.30am the following day six kegs of Guinness and five kegs of Heineken were taken from outside a pub in Ballyneety. A further seven kegs of Guinness and a keg of Fosters were stolen from outside another pub on the same day.

Meanwhile, in Patrickswell three kegs of Heineken, a keg of Guinness and one of Fosters were stolen at around 8.30am on Friday, October 26.

While in Rathkeale on November 30 four kegs of Guinness were stolen.
