THE owner of a wallet and cash handed into a Limerick garda station more than a decade ago has never been identified.

A judge has granted an order allowing gardai to take possession of the property, which was handed into Mayorstone garda station on June 30, 2000 after it was found by a member of the public.

During a Police Property Application made by Supt Frank O’Brien at Limerick Court, Sgt Donal Cronin said the application was a “housekeeping matter” and he said gardai have not been able to establish who owns the property.

Granting the order in favour of the state, Judge Eugene O’Kelly said: “I hope the money was invested wisely over the last couple of years.”
