GARDAI have arrested two men following a shooting incident in County Clare which has left a Limerick man fighting for his life in hospital.

GARDAI have arrested two men following a shooting incident in County Clare which has left a Limerick man fighting for his life in hospital.

The incident happened at around 4am in the car park of the Bunratty Castle hotel where a wedding reception had been held earlier in the night.

According to gardai, the victim was approached by two other men and shot a number of times before they fled in a waiting black car.

The 21-year-old, who is from the Moyross area of Limerick city, was taken by ambulance to the Mid-western Regional Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The victim is known to gardai and has served a number of prison sentences in the past.

Gardai have confirmed a gun was recovered near the scene of this morning's shooting and that two men were arrested as part of the investigation in Cork city a number of hours aftterwards.

The men, who are aged in their 20s, are currently detained at Mayfield and Gurranabraher garda stations under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act. They can be held without charge for up to seven days.
