Gardaí are investigating an incident in which netting over an exercise yard in Limerick Prison was damaged by petrol bombs.

Gardaí are investigating an incident in which netting over an exercise yard in Limerick Prison was damaged by petrol bombs.

According to gardai, a man wearing a grey hoodie and a dark grey jacket entered the grounds of St Joseph’s hospital at around 6pm last Saturday.

The man who was cycling a white mountain bike with a black trim then lit two petrol bombs before throwing them over the wall at the nets in the prison yard.

The fire caused damage to the nets which are designed to prevent illegal contraband for being thrown over the wall into the exercise yard. No one was injured during the incident.

Gardaí at Roxboro Road are investigating the incident and are appealing to anyone who saw the man entering or leaving St Joseph’s hospital to contact them at (061) 214342.
