THERE are fears that a garda has been seriously injured in a road crash in County Limerick this afternoon.

It is understood the garda officer was driving a patrol car which was in a collision with a another vehicle - possibly a jeep - at Lacey’s Cross on the outskirts of Newcastle West.

According to eyewitnesses a garda patrol car was badly damaged in the collision, which happened just after 2pm.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash and a section of the main N21 has been closed to traffic with diversions in place.

There are no reports of any other injuries.
