THE FUNERAL arrangements have been announced for Anthony Fitzgerald, 6, who was killed in a tragic road accident in Murroe on Thursday.
Reposing in Cross’s Funeral Home today from 5.30pm until removal at 7pm to St John’s Cathedral. Mass of the Angels on Saturday at 10am, with burial afterwards in Mount Saint Oliver Cemetery.
Deeply regretted by his parents, Anthony and Camie, brothers William and Johnny, sisters Nora, Kathleen and Caroline, aunts, uncles, cousins and his school friends.
It is understood that the child was playing with a friend near his home in the Ros Fearna housing estate at around 5pm on Thursday.
It is believed the boy was knocked down when he emerged from a ditch and into the path of a passing car. His friend was unhurt.
The car was being driven by a person from the locality. The incident took place just outside Murroe village on the Limerick road.
Local resident and councillor, John Egan, said Anthony was a lovely young fellow.
He attended Killinure National School, which will reopen after the Easter holidays on Monday.
“Everyone’s thoughts and prayers in Murroe are with the child’s family. It is absolutely tragic for this to happen to a child so young,” said Cllr Egan.
The location of the incident in Farnane is an accident blackspot and five years ago a man was killed on the same stretch of road.
Murroe gardai are investigating the accident and they can be contacted at 061 386102.
