Volunteerism to be celebrated at Limerick’s Milk Market

THE countdown to the sixth annual Limerick Volunteer Fair has begun.

THE countdown to the sixth annual Limerick Volunteer Fair has begun.

The theme of this year’s event - which recognises the stellar work of the city’s voluntary sector is ‘Volunteers: The Glue that Binds Limerick Together’. The event takes place on Sunday, September 25, from 3pm at the Milk Market.

With 2011 designated as the European Year of Volunteering, this year’s Community and Voluntary Fair will be a celebration of those in Limerick who commit their free time without payment.

This year, the emphasis will be placed on celebration and entertainment, promoting the diversity of volunteering opportunities in the cultural life of Limerick.

The highlight of the day will be a concert, which will look at the positive involvement in the arts, with music, drama and dance being provided by volunteers throughout.

As well as this, samples of food prepared by community cooks will be provided free of charge, through out the afternoon by Volunteers from the Youth Service and Community Kitchens who provide ‘Meals on Wheels’.
