A PILOT initiative will begin next week which will see rubbish bins being collected in parts of the city centre before 8 o’clock in the morning.

Areas such as Arthur’s Quay, Patrick Street, Sarsfield Street and a section of O’Connell Street will be included in the trial, which will operate between 6am and 8am.

The pilot scheme, which will run for a month, is being run by the environment department at Limerick City Council in conjunction with local businesses and Mr Binman.

Participating businesses have agreed remove all bins from the streets outside their premises by 9.30am.

Members of the City Council’s environmental special policy committee were told if the pilot scheme is successful, proposals will be brought to extend the scheme across the core business district.
