THE boss of a Raheen creche is celebrating today after making the top three of a prestigious industry awards scheme.

Mariana Kok took over Care Bears in the Raheen Industrial Estate when its previous owner decided to sell the business.

Now, 18 months on, the childcare facility has become the first outside of Dublin to make the final three in the best private creche category at the 2011 Maternity and Infant Magazine Awards.

Speaking to the Limerick Leader, Ms Kok said: “I was absolutely delighted [to be nominated], because it was one of our mums who nominated us. It shows that with effort and motivation, you can succeed in your goals.”

In the run up to the gala awards ceremony in Dublin on Friday, November 18, the sponsors of the award will send their inspectors down to examine the creche on a number of tough criteria, including cleanliness and child-friendliness among other things.

Ms Kok remains confident they will do well from this, saying: “We had a very good HSE inspection. We are always looking to improve on our service, and make an extra effort in other areas.”

Ahead of the awards ceremony, she says she is going to completely redesign the suburban creche, with artificial grass painted every colour of the rainbow.

At the moment, Care Bears employs 13 staff, with four rooms and two outdoor all weather areas.
