Man charged with murdering Francis Greene

A TWENTY-eight year old man has appeared before Limerick District Court charged with murdering another man in the city just over a year ago.

A TWENTY-eight year old man has appeared before Limerick District Court charged with murdering another man in the city just over a year ago.

Kevin Coughlan, 28, of of Newenham Street in the city is accused of murdering Francis Greene at Steamboat Quay on the night of November 28 last year.

The body of the 48-year-old, who was living at Hartstonge Street, was recovered from the River Shannon at Portdrine, Co Clare in February - three months after he was reported missing.

Det Garda Viv Downey, Henry Street, told the court that Mr Coughlan made no reply when he was formally charged at 3.25 this afternoon.

The defendant, who didn't speak during the brief hearing, was remanded in custody to appear in court again via video-link next Tuesday.
