Popular LIT student Steven Kavanagh will be laid to rest this Friday
THE body of missing LIT student Steven Kavanagh has been recovered from the river Shannon.

THE body of missing LIT student Steven Kavanagh has been recovered from the river Shannon.

His body was recovered from the water at the Tail Race near Clonlara by members of Mallow Search and Rescue unit at around 2pm.

It is understood the discovery was made during routine maintenance of turbines at Ardnacrusha power station.

Steven Kavanagh (21), who was vice-president of the LIT students union, was last seen at Clonlara Bridge at around 2.30am on March 6, last.

Searches have been underway since and more than 100 people took part in a major search along the banks of the canal at Clonlara at the weekend.

The family of the 21-year-old have been notified of today’s discovery and a garda spokesman said the body was removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will be conducted.
