EMERGENCY services are at the scene of an accident involving a garda patrol car in Kilmallock.

The accident, which involved the patrol car and another vehicle, happened shortly before 11am near the church on the outksirts of the town.

Several units of the fire brigade from Killmallock are at the scene along with ambulance personnell.

It is understood at least one garda has been seriously injured. It is not known if anyone in the other vehicle was injured.

The area has been closed to traffic and investigations are underway into the circumstances of the accident.
