A MAN is being questioned by gardai after a farmer was allegedly threatened at knifepoint during an aggravated burglary at his home in West Limerick.

A MAN is being questioned by gardai after a farmer was allegedly threatened at knifepoint during an aggravated burglary at his home in West Limerick.

The alarm was raised in the early hours of this morning after the farmer, who is aged in his 40s, was woken by an intruder who is alleged to have forced him to drive from his home in the Shanagolden area to another to another location.

Gardai were alerted by the farmer after he managed to escape a short time later.

A garda spokesman confirmed that a man in his 20s was initially arrested on suspicion of stealing a car and that he was subsequently arrested in relation to the alleged burglary.

He is being questioned at Newcastle West garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
