THE town of Bruff came to a standstill this Friday as hundreds of people from the local community turned out to welcome the daughter of JFK, Caroline Kennedy.

Ms Kennedy who was joined by her husband Edwin Schlossberg and her three children Rose, Tatiana and Jack, visited the Fitzgerald family homestead on the Palatine/Limerick road before attending a prayer service for her deceased relatives in Ss Peter and Paul Church.

The only surviving child of the late US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and his wife Jackie lit candles in the church after viewing the baptismal records of her great, great grandfather, Thomas Fitzgerald.

During the service, JFK’s grandchildren Rose, Tatiana and Jack offered up prayers of the faithful, including one prayer for the people who have left Irish shores to seek employment abroad.

“It was absolutely tremendous to meet her,” said Mike Fitzgerald jnr, a fifth cousin of Ms Kennedy.

“It is a great occasion for Bruff and a great occasion for the family,” he added.
