FORMER Miss Ireland, Andrea Roche, will have her “eyes peeled” for budding models when she travels to Limerick next week to judge the Miss Limerick Ireland Universe/Miss Spin South West beauty pageant.

The Tipperary woman who has 13 years modelling experience and now runs her own model agency in Dublin says she is looking for a girl who can go on to win the national title and compete at international level.

“Obviously, the whole goal for any contestant is to win the overall competition and to represent Ireland in the Miss Universe pageant,” said Andrea, who was crowned Miss Ireland 16 years ago.

A winner, she said, should be someone who is a good talker, very confident, very proud of being Irish, very well-rounded and educated “and obviously it’s a beauty pageant so someone who looks the part as well.”

Local model agent Celia Holman Lee, who is organising the event in association with Spin South West, says any girl who thinks she has what it takes to take the title should put her name forward.

“We are still looking for girls to take part. In this world you never know what will come out of anything, opportunity-wise, until you go for it,” said Celia. “We are going to try again this year to have another go at the Miss Ireland title.”

Having been crowned Miss Spin South West in Limerick in 2011, Listowel’s Aoife Hannon went on to be crowned Miss Universe Ireland 2011. “Aoife Hannon had a great year when she won – she got to go to South America for six weeks,” Andrea explained.

Two girls will walk away with a tiara and sash on June 25 having been crowned Miss Limerick Ireland Universe 2013 and Miss Spin South West 2013.

“I’m really looking forward to coming down and being part of the judging process on the night,” said Andrea. “ Celia is in the business a really long time and she always puts really strong Miss Limericks forward so it would be lovely for a girl from Limerick to win this year.”

The event takes place on Tuesday, June 25 at 8pm in the Limerick Strand Hotel. Those interested in taking part can email reception@holmanlee.ie or see www.spinsouthwest.com for further details.
