Two men have been arrested by gardai investigating the hijacking of a taxi at the weekend.

Two men have been arrested by gardai investigating the hijacking of a taxi at the weekend.

Investigating gardai say two men hailed a taxi at St Nessan’s Road, Dooradoyle at around 10.20pm on Saturday and asked to be taken to Russell Court, Dooradoyle.

The men then asked to be taken to the Sixmilebridge area and onto Cratloe Woods.

On arrival at Cratloe Woods, one of the culprits produced a knife and threatened the taxi driver before demanding to be brought back to the Dooradoyle area of the city.

On arrival in Dooradoyle, the taxi driver was forced to leave the vehicle before the culprits drive off in the taxi in the direction of Garryowen FC.

Although traumatised, the taxi driver was not physically injured during the incident.

Two men are being questioned about the incident at Roxboro Road garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
